Abstract
On Rajab 25, 922 h. /August 24, 1516, the battle of Marj Dabiq took place during which the Ottomans defeated the Mamluk army. The Ottoman sultan Salim I continued his progress and occupied the cities of the Levant and appointed Jân Birdî al-Ghazâlî as his representative. After Salim’s death, Jân Birdî al-Ghazâlî rose against the Ottomans and strove to return the Mamluks to power. This article aims to analyze these events through the correspondence and the commercial reports of Venetian merchants.
